The lesson of the sheep-fold

Jesus knows our names

Apparently at the time of Jesus, in the East, shepherds gave each of his sheep an individual name.

Every sheep knew its own name and would come when its own shepherd called.

At night the shepherds put all their sheep in a common sheep-fold. The sheep-fold was surrounded by a stone wall, to protect the flocks against wild animals.

All the flocks were mixed up during the night.

In the morning each shepherd called out the names of his own sheep. They would recognize his voice, separate from the mass of flocks, and follow him out of the sheep-fold.

Jesus knows our individual names. This is why Jesus said:

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me:..."

John 10:27

How often do we remain still and listen for Jesus's voice?

Praise the Lord

John 10:27 King James Version (KJV)

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
